    Legal Update—Compliance Guide to Pregnancy Discrimination

     

    Synopsis of this Presentation:    This presentation will assist HR understand how to traverse the complicated requirements of reasonable accommodations, leaves of absence and the broad requirements of Nevada’s new state law.

    Attendees will learn:

    • Nevada Pregnant Workers’ Fairness Act includes protections broader than the Affordable Care Act’s amendments to the Fair Labor Standards Act and requires a good faith interactive process similar to the Americans with Disabilities Act.
    • Employers are prohibited from requiring leave if there is another reasonable accommodation that would allow the employee to continue to work.
    • Nevada employers with at least 15 employees are required to provide 3 notices – posted in the workplace, to employees upon hire, and to employees who provide notice of pregnancy.
    • Employers should obtain an acknowledgment of receipt of the notice and train supervisors to ensure full compliance.

     

    About the Presenter: Connye Harper, JD, SHRM-SCP, SHRP

She is a recognized expert in the fields of employment practices, including sexual harassment and implicit bias, and has been quoted in many newspaper articles and magazines addressing these issues.
