Meeting Opening: The TSA Color Guard and the Pledge

Spouses will speak of their challenges of being a military spouse and how that translates to what skills they bring to an employer. Spouse speakers: Alicia Verratti, Diana Marmino and Nichole Nguyen.

Andre’ Haynes will discuss the benefits of hiring spouses.

Nichole Nguyen will speak on services from ESGR.

Command Sargent Major James Richardson and COL Vernon Scarbrough from the National Guard- will give a little brief on the upcoming Deployment and how civilian Employers can reach out to them while they are gone.

Andre' Haynes

Andre’ Haynes is an American entrepreneur and a media personality that is based in Las Vegas, Nevada. Haynes is the Founder and President of the EMG Cares Foundation, EMG Communications and the Miss Endeavor America Program. He is a regularly published columnist and talk-show host that has contributed to online and print publications, in addition to hosting radio and television talk-shows. Andre’ Haynes is a highly sought after panelist and public speaker. He has served as a chairman of nonprofit boards and is active in community service.

Nichole Nguyen

Nichole Nguyen is currently serving as the Administrative Support Analyst, with the Nevada Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve’s, ESGR Program. Nichole has networked in the Las Vegas military non-profit employment support community since 2010. Over the last few years, Nichole has assisted Service Members for all seven seals. She was also the Southern Nevada Joining Community Forces Lead, where she networked quarterly for over 50 companies, organizations, and individuals who support service members, veterans and their families.

She has received a lot of recognition for her time as a volunteer over the past 7 years with the 422d Expeditionary Signal Battalion’s Chairperson for their Family Readiness Group. From certificates, letters and glass awards for giving her time. The ones she is most proud of is the letter of gratitude from Brigadier General Burks for being a lead for Southern NV as well as the liaison for Southern Nevada’s Care Team and in 2014, Nichole received the Nevada State Commendation Medal signed by General Hanifan of the Army.

Here she is to tell you a little about her story as a spouse of a Military Service Member in the Nevada National Guard.  She wants to inform you about her volunteer experience along with her trials and tribulations with employment, while being a military spouse. She would like to share advice to the employers and the Veteran community about the advantages of hiring a Veteran or military spouse. Please welcome Nichole Nguyen

Command Sergeant Major James A. Richardson

Command Sergeant Major James A. Richardson was appointed as the Command Sergeant Major of the 17^th Sustainment Brigade on 1 May 2013, prior to that assignment he served as the Command Sergeant Major for the 421^st Regional Training Institute, and the 1-221 Armored Recon Squadron.  CSM Richardson was born in Provo, Utah, is married to the former Miss Tammy Painter, and they have 7 children.   CSM Richardson joined the active duty Army as a Combat Signaler on 30 June 1982. CSM Richardson attended BCT at FT Dix, NJ, and AIT at FT Gordon, GA. He then received an honorable discharge from active duty in January 1985, and joined the Nevada Army National Guard in 1987 as a Traditional Soldier, and joined the Active Guard Reserve program in 1989.

Initially assigned as an Armor Crewman with 1^st -221^st Armor Battalion in 1987, CSM Richardson has served in every leadership position from Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, and First Sergeant. CSM Richardson deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom in 2009 with 1-221 Armored Reconnaissance Squadron, as the Squadron CSM, and Battlespace Command Sergeant Major in Laghman Province, Afghanistan, conducting governance, kinetic and non-kinetic operations in Regional Command East. All leading to his current assignment as the 17^th Sustainment Brigade’s Command Sergeant Major.  

In June 2006, CSM Richardson graduated from the Sergeant’s Major Academy in Fort Bliss, Texas, class 31. CSM Richardson Graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Management from Grand Canyon University, Tucson, Arizona.

CSM Richardson’s military decorations include: the Bronze Star Medal, NATO Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, 2nd Award, Army Commendation Medal, 7^th Award, Army Achievement Medal 7^th Award, Good Conduct Medal 8^th Award, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, 3^rd  Award, Army Outstanding Volunteer Award, National Defense Service Medal, 2^nd  Award; Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal,  Non‐commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with numeral four, Combat Action Badge, Drennan A. Clark Medal of Merit,  Nevada National Guard Commendation Medal 5^th Award, Nevada National Guard Meritorious Service Ribbon, 2nd Award, Nevada National Guard Service Medal, Nevada National Guard Recruiting Ribbon, Expert Rifle Badge, Expert Pistol Badge, West German Marksmanship Badge (Bronze), Nevada Governors Outstanding Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation.

CSM Richardson is a member of the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation, Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, Candle Lighters of Southern Nevada, Make-A-Wish of Southern Nevada, Nevada Governors Commission on Off Highway Vehicles, American Motorcycle Association, and Academy of Model Aeronautics. He is a Certified Motorcycle Safety Instructor with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. 

Colonel Vernon L. Scarbrough Jr.

Colonel Vernon L. Scarbrough Jr. commissioned as a second lieutenant through the Texas Army National Guard’s Officer Candidate School program in 1986. He thereafter graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1986, Southern Oregon University with a Master of Music Degree in 2000, and the U.S. Army War College Distance Education Program with a Master of Strategic Studies degree in 2013. He attended the Signal Officer Basic and Advance Courses, the Army Command and General Staff Course, and the U.S. Army War College Distance Education Program.    Colonel Scarbrough assumed command of the 17TH Sustainment Brigade in Las Vegas, Nevada, Nevada Army National Guard in February 2014. His previous assignments include: Commander 422ND Signal Battalion, Deputy G6 Network Manager - Nevada Army National Guard, Biometrics Program Manager Forward - Afghanistan, Deputy United States Property and Fiscal Officer, Director of Personnel G1 - Nevada Army National Guard, G6 /Director of Information Management (DOIM) – Nevada Army National Guard. Colonel Scarbrough’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Humanitarian Service Medal.    Colonel Scarbrough retired from the Washoe County School District after eighteen years as a Band Director. He is the co-founder and current director of the Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra I and II.  Colonel Scarbrough is married with two children and resides in Reno, Nevada. 

Diana Marmino

Diana Marmino is the wife of Retired MSgt Randall Marmino, who served for 22 years in the Air Force. He has since retired and is now a Civilian Contractor at Creech Air Force Base.

Diana utilizes her Psychology degree within the Career Services Center at Nevada State College, where she assists students with finding a job, obtaining internships and

Grad School application. She is also a MBTI Certified Practitioner, where she assists students with determining what degree program they should pursue to obtain a career that best fits their

Personality Type and their Preferences. She is also actively working with the Veterans of Nevada State College, where she develops effective resumes and finds Veteran Employment Community

Partners who hire them. Motivation, determination and ability to adapt, are what the Air Force and being an Air Force wife has taught her. These are also the strengths she instills to the Veteran Community she serves.
