Serving on the Southern Nevada SHRM Board is a meaningful opportunity to contribute your time and talents to advance the HR community we represent. We are excited about your interest and look forward to the possibility of your involvement.
Our chapter is committed to aligning with SHRM’s standards and ensuring we follow our local chapter by-laws. We also base our leadership approach on SHRM’s SHAPE (SHRM Affiliate Program for Excellence) initiatives.

SHAPE outlines clear requirements to measure chapter alignment and engagement with SHRM’s overall goals. The focus of SHAPE has shifted to more strategic activities and initiatives, enabling chapters to enhance their viability, effectiveness, and promotion of the HR profession at the local level.”
Expectations as a Board Member:
As a board member, you will collaborate with fellow board members, committees, and the broader membership to achieve the chapter’s goals in alignment with SHAPE. Please consider the time commitment involved before applying. Here are some general expectations:

Term: Board members serve a two-year term.

Responsibilities: Active participation in initiatives, goal-setting, and progress reporting is required.

Attendance: Board members are expected to attend at least 75% of board meetings, whether in-person or via conference call.

Engagement: Members should be actively involved in chapter events and programs during their term.

Committee Building: Board members are encouraged to recruit and engage chapter members to assist with initiatives.

Support: Our Board is diverse and collaborative, providing mentorship and support as needed.

Non-Profit Role: SNVSHRM is a non-profit organization; Board members are volunteers and not compensated for their time.
By-Law Criteria for Board Participation
Officer Positions: Candidates for Officer positions must have completed at least one full term as a member of the Board of Directors.
Director or Member At-Large Positions:

Candidates must be SHRM members in good standing throughout their term.

Must hold a SHRM “Professional” membership level and meet at least one of the following criteria:

Have three or more years of experience as an exempt-level HR practitioner.
-
Hold an HR Generalist certification or credential.
-
Serve as an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor teaching HR for a minimum of three years at an accredited college or university.

Be a full-time HR consultant for at least three years.
-
Be a full-time attorney with at least three years of experience counseling on HR matters.
