    Conducting Effective Workplace Investigations

    We will also touch on the concepts of bias, evidence, credibility, ethics, and the roles they play in the process as well as post-investigation best practices.

    About the speaker:

     

    Jim Mathews is licensed to conduct external workplace investigations in Nevada and is based in Las Vegas. Jim has 15 years and 12,000+ hours of internal corporate employee relations experience gained over a 30-year human resources management career.

    Jim grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from Northern Arizona University. He began his professional career in banking operations management in Portland before transitioning to a human resources manager position for a 125-employee lumber manufacturer.

    ​Jim went on to support a large Department of Defense project in Iraq, where he spent 7+ years providing dedicated employee relations work. He continued to provide employee relations support in Dubai for two years as a Regional HR Manager, supporting employees in the U.A.E., Kuwait, Oman, and Afghanistan. Jim returned to the States to support a commercial manufacturing operation in the Portland metropolitan area.  

    ​Jim has conducted 1,500+ investigations over his career involving discriminatory behavior, sexual harassment, harassment, retaliation, bullying, misconduct, and policy violation claims.​

    Jim is an Association of Workplace Investigators (AWI) member and Training Institute Certificate Holder (AWI-CH).​ Jim holds a Senior Certified Professional Certification (SHRM-SCP) from the Society for HR Management and a Global Professional Human Resources Certification (GPHR) from the HR Certification Institute. Jim is licensed through the Nevada Private Investigators Licensing Board. 

    Jim and his wife Nancy live in Sun City Summerlin and have six adult children and two grandchildren between them. Jim is active in the community softball league and recently co-founded the first basketball club.
