HR Metrics
by Dave Newton
Numbers are the way organizations measure performance and evaluate progress.
HR metrics are crucial because they’re the numbers we track in order to improve our department’s performance and because upper management likes data more than feelings.
Providing top executives with information that’s relevant to the success of the organization is essential if we want to be valued members of the management team.
Here’s an outline of what we’ll cover in this session:
- What are the basic types of measurements?
- activities vs. results
- scores vs ratios
- individual vs. team
- transactional vs. strategic
- What metrics are we using now?
- We’ll share the results of a survey done of SNV SHRM members
- What are the most common metrics and how are they defined?
- What metrics should we be using and how do we decide?
- For our HR department?
- For our organization?
- Exercise/Discussion – what additional HR metric would be most significant for your organization’s top executives?
